Caring for the sea and each other
Passionately defending our oceans and seas across the world since 1977, Sea Shepherd shares our love for one of our planet's most precious resources. We'll be supporting the organisation's Operation SISO, which focuses on removing illegal fishing nets and protecting life in the Mediterranean Sea. The operation is named after Siso, a young sperm whale found dead in 2017 near Capo Milazzo after becoming entangled in an illegal driftnet.
His story inspired Sea Shepherd Italy to launch Operation SISO in 2018, and today his skeleton is displayed at the MuMa Museum in Milazzo as a powerful reminder of the impact of illegal fishing and plastic pollution on marine life.
The good news is that, since 2021, no sperm whale has died in these nets in the area, proving that direct actioncan truly make a difference.
Small steps, real change
Sea Shepherd has a long-standing record of positive impact. In 2025, Operation SISO has recovered 50 kg of polluting plasticmaterials from FADs, removed two illegal nets exceeding 15 km in length and documented the most impacted areas in the Mediterranean. They’ve also freedand saved nearly 18,000 marine creatures.
